Deborah Smith

Deborah Smith has been making photographs since the 1980s. She has exhibited in various public and dealer galleries ever since. Her day jobs have included 15 years as an editorial photographer and recently a lecturer at Unitec School of Design, Auckland.
Since 1992 Deborah Smith has worked intermittently as a fashion photographer, and in 2000 collaborated with designer Marilyn Sainty on an installation ‘Dust Cloak’ which was shown in Napier and later at the Auckland Art Gallery
In 1999 along with her brother Mark Smith, and friend Victoria Ferguson they formed CAKE Collective, an urban poster exhibition of which there have been five so far. The last being executed late 2002. Their commitment is to presenting their photographic imagery to a very wide egalitarian audience.
