Location

Rush Cottage, along with Black Barn, is located right in the heart of the Vineyard. The Cottage looks directly down through the rows of Merlot grapes and out to the mountains in the West, the River valleys in the East and the ocean of Hawke Bay straight ahead to the North. Black Barn Vineyards are just 30 minutes from Napier Airport, 10 minutes from the city of Hastings and just 5 minutes from the quaint and historic village of Havelock North. It is set right in the heart of New Zealand's premier wine growing region and many of New Zealand's most famous wine names are literally on your doorstep. Beautiful beaches, golf courses, trout fishing rivers and shopping are all just minutes away.

Attractions

Many people who stay at either Rush Cottage or Black Barn simply don't want to leave the property. You are surrounded by several acres of vines and a working vineyard. You are welcome to treat the vineyard as 'your own' while you are staying with us and everything from artichokes to fresh figs to almonds to citrus can be gathered from the property depending on the time of year you are with us. Of course, you can always lend a hand with 'vintage' as well! When you are with us, the winery is just next door and is open seven days so we can advise you on the location of the best beaches, golf courses, swimming pools and attractions. We can also organise winery tours, garden visits, guided fishing trips to some of New Zealand's best trout fishing rivers and we can also organise to have fully catered meals prepared and presented at the Cottage if you wish. A full compendium to local restaurants and attractions will be in the retreat when you arrive, we also offer a wide range of activities that we are more than happy to arrange on your behalf. You can also view our compendium below.

Guest Comments

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rush Cottage was top rate without being over the top. Very clean. Very quaint. Lovely setting. Auckland

Rush Cottage was absolutely beautiful. The house is just as it would have been in the 20's, stylish, rustic, and elegant, set in a vineyard, next door to an excellent restaurant. The provisions including bread, juice, milk, marmalade, coffee and eggs were an unexpected surprise. The house is perfect for lounging about in however you have to drag yourself away from the views and magazines to play petanque, tennis or croquet and to visit the nearby vineyards, shops and cafes. Go - you'll love it! Waiheke Island

Queens Birthday at the unique Rush Cottage was superb. Hawkes Bay turned on the weather almost too warm to light the fire...almost! Our girls loved playing in the garden and amongst the vines and we ensured a table at BB Bistro for lunch on the Sunday. Cosy, simple luxury, an escape for all ages. Simply lovely. Wellington
