Join us for an intimate evening on Thursday, 23 April, with Dallas Tamaira, the unmistakable voice behind Fat Freddy’s Drop, joined by a remarkable collective of musicians - Leonardo “Leo” Coghini (keys), Johnny Lawrence (bass), and Conway Jeune - Fat Freddy's Drop, TOI (guitar).

Set against a relaxed two-course dinner, this is a chance to experience Dallas and this supergroup of artists in the intimate surroundings of Black Barn Bistro in a way rarely seen.

Expect an easy, soulful evening where the music unfolds naturally, with good food and wine, and great company.

Dallas Tamaira
Dallas Tamaira is a multi-talented vocalist, musician, producer, illustrator, and actor, widely regarded as one of Aotearoa’s most distinctive musical voices. Performing under
the moniker Joe Dukie, he has achieved international acclaim as the velvet-smooth frontman of Fat Freddy’s Drop — a band celebrated as one of the world’s finest live
acts. In 2020, Tamaira returned to his roots as a solo artist with the release of No Flowers, his first solo project in over two decades.

Of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Pākehā descent, Dallas was born in Christchurch and raised in the coastal town of Kaikōura. His voice has been described as “one of the most
soulful of his generation” (BBC), with critics famously likening him to a “Māori Marvin Gaye.”


Leonardo “Leo” Coghini (Keys)
Leonardo “Leo” Coghini is a Wellington-based jazz pianist, keyboardist, and producer known for his versatility and distinctive musical voice. A highly sought-after collaborator,
he has performed with a wide range of artists, including Bret McKenzie, Troy Kingi, Rob Ruha, Teeks, Deva Mahal, Trinity Roots, Mara TK, and Drax Project, as well as ensembles such as the NZ Air Force Band and Richter City Rebels. As a solo artist, Leo released the three-volume improvised piano collection Wellington Solos, showcasing his melodic sensitivity and improvisational skill. Renowned for his
rare technical ability and gentle swing feel, he is a standout presence within Aotearoa’s jazz scene.


Johnny Lawrence (Bass)
Originally from Ōtautahi Christchurch, Johnny Lawrence is a Wellington-based bass player and educator known for his versatility, musicality, and depth of experience. He has toured internationally with Electric Wire Hustle and spent time living and performing in Toronto, Canada.
Johnny regularly performs, records, and tours with leading New Zealand artists, including Louis Baker, Dallas Tamaira, Hollie Smith, Rob Ruha, and Cory Champion’s Clear Path Ensemble, alongside a wide range of local acts. An in-demand session musician, he has also performed with artists such as Allen Stone, Troy Kingi, Myele Manzanza, Jonathan Crayford, Goldenhorse, and Mara TK.


Conway Jeune (Guitar)
Conway Jeune is an Aotearoa New Zealand guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his deeply expressive, groove-driven playing. A member of an internationally renowned
group, Fat Freddy’s Drop, he is part of a lineage of musicians shaping one of the country’s most celebrated live acts, known for their improvised performances and
genre-blending sound. Also, the frontman of Wellington soul/funk collective TOI, Conway, brings a strong sense of musical empathy to his work — contributing warmth, depth, and a commitment to
collective expression.

+ If you'd like to sit close to another group of friends, please email us here. We will organise tables to provide the best view of the performance, so groups of 6 or more may not be best seated at the same table. However, we’ll endeavour to seat you all as close together as possible.


event times

+ 5.00 pm - Bistro doors open - Pre-dinner drinks, cocktails and snacks will be available for purchase.

+ 7.00 pm - The First Course is served, after which the perfromance will begin.

+ 9.30 pm - Event finishes
