This wine commemorates a remarkable woman who we look to as ‘The Godmother’ of Black Barn Vineyards.
Arriving from Ischia in 1947, Concetta Lombardi settled in Havelock North.
Under her Kiwi name Tina Green with husband Bill they established Lombardi Wines. In 1994, as leaseholders of the land and in acknowledgement of Tina, we planted five rows in the Italian varieties of Sangiovese and Montepulciano. This is a stunning Italian blend celebrating a proud woman who may have become a Kiwi blend herself, but like this wine, also remained proudly and staunchly Italian.
Made from 100% hand picked, estate grown Chardonnay grapes this is a superb Methode Traditionelle. Black Barn has gained a significant reputation for its chardonnays and 2010 was one of our best vintages yet. We set aside a limited amount of that volume to create this outstanding Blanc de Blanc. It is only available through the Cellar Door and the only restaurant you'll find it in will be Black Barn Bistro.
Rarely made but highly sought after, this ‘Amber’ Wine is an excellent example of our continued evolution as an artisan winegrower. A co-ferment of Viognier and Pinto Gris, the result is a wine of depth, uncompromised quality and complexity. Aromas of Turkish delight, fleshy apricot and underlying floral notes. The palate has fine tannins, excellent acid balance and a long finish from extended time on skins.
Enjoy with meals you’d match red wine with.
Individual vineyard parcels selectively picked.
Burnt cherry, bramble with a restrained oak presence. A fruit driven Pinot Noir with soft acidity and a long finish.
Unfiltered and no fining.
