Dinner with the NZSQ
Join the New Zealand String Quartet for an evening of music, storytelling and dinner at Black Barn Bistro, on Sunday 8 November, as they finish their 2026 season.
Their 'Legend' programme features Beethoven, as well as scenes from the magical ballet 'Hansel and Gretel' from Aotearoa’s own Claire Cowan. And to finish, Benjamin Britten’s luminous third and final string quartet on the fiftieth anniversary of the composer’s death.
The quartet will introduce each piece and share the stories behind the music. Whether it's your first chamber music concert or your fortieth, you'll feel at home.

A bit more about the New Zealand String Quartet
The New Zealand String Quartet – Te Rōpū Tūrū o Aotearoa (NZSQ) is committed to bringing transformational chamber music experiences that inspire, challenge, educate and reflect Aotearoa New Zealand. About to celebrate their 40th anniversary next year, the NZSQ is the country’s longest-running professional string quartet. Known internationally for creating genuine connections with audiences, the Quartet brings performances that are intimate, accessible and deeply moving, making live chamber music an unforgettable shared experience for local communities of all ages.
Proud cultural and artistic ambassadors, the NZSQ explores the possibilities of the string quartet genre through exciting programming and collaborations with other artforms. The Quartet has premiered over 150 New Zealand works and are active champions of New Zealand and Māori music.
In addition to performing, the Quartet plays a leadership role in music education. The ensemble has a long-standing partnership with the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōkī and presents a diverse range of education opportunities for aspiring musicians throughout the country.

+ If you'd like to sit close to another group of friends, please email us here. We will organise tables to provide the best view of the performance, so groups of 6 or more may not be best seated at the same table. However, we’ll endeavour to seat you all as close together as possible.

+ 6.00 pm - Bistro doors open - Pre-dinner drinks, cocktails and snacks will be available for purchase.
+ 7.00 pm - The First Course is served, after which the performance will begin.
+ 9.30 pm - Event finishes
